DGM HQ Wiltshire accents of

10.09

DGM HQ.

Wiltshire accents of the broad kind began punctually, mingling with the voices of small persons on their way to school, below my office floor at 08.30.

From Sandra Bain Cushman's GC Diary --

Have been thinking over the lesson I taught yesterday during which the student showed me his self-taught set of daily physical exercises. Alexander maintained that doing physical exercise, especially this kind of focused routine (which, not surprisingly, is a bit haphazard), with a tensed and malcoordinated body is worse than not doing them at all.

This is an excellent example of the joke:

I learnt from someone who didn't know what they were doing.
How's that?
I'm self-taught.

And, for anyone who would like to see a Fripp-impersonator at work --

From an e-mail to DGM --

Today, I listened to RED in its entirety. It occured to me that RED is one of a handful of landmark recordings. It has an awesome dynamic power. I was wondering if there was any way you could pass this thought to maestro Fripp. How about a 30th anniversary tribute to RED (recorded in 1974) done by the Crimson clan themselves. Reuniting the magnificent John Wetton & Fripp again for recording would be tremendous.

I wrote to say that John & I had tea yesterday.

Most tributes are kind of weak (i know there is a KC tribute out there). A tribute by the artists themselves seems pretentious, but who could better re-create that awesome whale of a sound heard on RED than the kings themselves.

This is a failure not waiting to happen.

P.S. RED is kind of short. Please find out if there are any outtakes, etc. from the original recordings that could be part of a RED AGAIN project.

None.

21.14 DGM SoundWorld II.

Hugh, Beast of the DGM Art Department, arrived this afternoon and is presently rehearsing in Salisbury with his group for an important gig on Saturday. Today Hugh sent out artwork of KCCC 25 (Filllmore East, Novmber 21/22, 1969) to the founder members for approval. Initially, Peter Sinfield had spoken against the release, but accepted the consensus of the players to go ahead.

Punk's Bedroom: tapes have arrived to support Punk's bedroom philosophiliacals & encourage him to go further with these. Like, to make them available for public download on the about-to-be-becoming DGM Website. The World According To Punk is now a stage closer to the world.

David has spent much of his day working on a new project: KC Miniatures. Some of this is prĂˆcis, some is well-humoured, some with specific intent.

We have been discussing the plan for DGM releases in 2004 as part of the re-licensing of the catalogue. Frame By Frame might become an 8-volume set, in 4 double sets; the first 4 volumes covering studio releases, and the second 4 volumes live performances. The Great Deceiver might become a 6-volume set, in 3 doubles, with volumes 5&6 from archives discovered and/or investigated since 1992. For example, we have a set of blue 1/4" tapes from European shows recorded before the band went to the US & the performances used on the original The GD. And 2004 is the 25th. anniversary year of Exposure's release, of which there are two formats in addition to the Daryl Hall version (scuppered by his then management, Tommy Mottola, & record company, RCA). Soundscapes are waiting for re-presentation, including an extended Second Edition of A Blessing Of Tears. And The Vicar continues to smile knowingly.

23.04 Done. David is about to go home.
